The 240 Mil(6 mm) HDPE Geomembrane is an extremely thick, high-strength synthetic liner and barrier material. This HDPE liner is manufactured from 97.5% premium high-density polyethylene resin, approximately 2.5% carbon black, antioxidants, and thermal stabilizers using the co-extrusion blown film or calendering process. As a premium-grade geomembrane sheet, this specification is designed for large-scale, critical containment applications demanding superior durability, exceptional puncture and tear resistance, and outstanding chemical resistance.
Performance
This 240 Mil(6 mm) HDPE Geomembrane exhibits performance metrics that far exceed those of standard-thickness liners:
Exceptional Physical Strength
Tensile Strength: Extremely high, capable of withstanding significant foundation settlement, hydrostatic pressure, and external loads.
Tear Resistance: Outstanding resistance to tear propagation, effectively containing any localized damage.
Puncture Resistance: Superior resistance to sharp objects, making it ideal for landfill and mining applications.
Superior Impermeability
Permeability Coefficient: Extremely low, typically < 1 x 10⁻¹³ cm/s, making it an effective barrier against liquid and gas migration.
Excellent Chemical Resistance
Highly resistant to a wide range of acids, alkalis, salts, oils, and organic solvents, making 240 Mil(6 mm) HDPE Geomembrane ideal for containing aggressive leachate and chemical waste.
Outstanding UV & Aging Resistance
The added carbon black and stabilizers ensure long-term performance when exposed to sunlight, contributing to a service life exceeding 50 years.
Excellent Stress Crack Resistance
Formulated to resist brittle cracking under long-term tensile stress.
Application
Due to its robust properties, the 240 mil HDPE geomembrane is specified for the most demanding “Class A” or “Type I” containment projects:
Environmental Containment
Hazardous Waste Landfills: The primary and secondary impermeable liner in base and sidewall systems, often a regulatory requirement.
Solid Waste Landfills: Used in base and slope lining systems.
Wastewater / Equalization Ponds: For storing high-strength industrial effluents.
Mining & Mineral Processing
Heap Leach Pads: Lining for cyanide or sulfuric acid solution ponds in gold and copper extraction.
Tailings Impoundments: Prevents contamination of groundwater by heavy metals and process chemicals.
Red Mud Storage: Containment of highly alkaline bauxite residue in the alumina industry.
Water & Energy Sector
Large Reservoirs / Artificial Lakes: Prevents water seepage, especially in poor geological conditions.
Basic anti-seepage of crude oil and petrochemical storage tanks: 240 mil(6 mm) HDPE geomembrane serves as a secondary sealing layer to prevent leakage and pollution of soil and groundwater
Specialized Applications
Nuclear facility barriers, high-integrity constructed wetlands, and secure foundation liners.
